Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will I remember what happened?
A. Yes. You will remember what is said and what you have said.

Q. Will all my secrets come out?
A. No. If there is something that you do not wish to share with the therapist for whatever reason, then you do not have to.

Q. Will I “lose control”?
A. No. You are fully aware of everything during a session, so you are in just as much control as you would be whatever else you were doing.

Q. I find it difficult to relax, do I need to relax to go into hypnosis?
A. No. You do not need to be relaxed in order to go into hypnosis. Relaxation is one of the methods that can me used, but there are several others.

Q. What does it feel like to go into hypnosis?
A. There is no particular feeling in hypnosis. It can feel relaxing. It probably feels the most like being in a day dream. It is a natural state for us to be in - as we all have day dreams!

Q. Will I be asleep?
A. No. Hypnosis is the Greek word for “sleep” but you do not “go to sleep”. Most people cannot tell the difference between hypnotic and waking states. Some people feel very relaxed, other people feel a lightness. One thing that people do notice is a change in their daily behaviour.

Q. Does it work?
A. Usually. For most people, yes. Hypnotherapy is NOT magic and nothing can be guaranteed. You must be committed to wanting to change. But as long as you want to change and are ready to change, but need some help to do so, then this type of hypnotherapy can help you to achieve those changes easily. (Sometimes where years of other therapy has failed.)

Q. Is it safe?
A. Yes. Hypnosis is a safe and natural therapy. But we can help you to change the habits and behaviour patterns that you want to change.

Q. Are there any side effects?
A. No. Unlike taking medication, there are no side effects. This is a natural therapy.

Q. I am worried at the thought of hypnosis – can I still be cured?
A. Yes. Other methods of therapy can be used such as N.L.P. and listed on this website, or when you are ready you could gradually be introduced to “waking hypnosis”. Several clients have initially brought friends or partners with them for additional comfort and support. Some have left a video camera running to record a session. All therapy is geared to giving you back full control.
